Can antibiotics cause diarrhoea?
Many antibiotics can cause diarrhoea as a side effect. Broad-spectrum antibiotics are associated with Clostridium difficile, a type of bacteria that infects your intestines when antibiotics have removed your normal gut bacteria. Diarrhoea caused by these bacteria can be serious, particularly in the elderly. If you develop diarrhoea while taking antibiotics, it is best to see your doctor.
