What increases the chances of developing bursitis?

Risk factors for developing bursitis include: rheumatoid arthritis, gout, pseudogout and diabetes; older age; doing manual jobs or having hobbies that involve repetitive stress or pressure to the affected area; trauma to the skin overlying the bursa (this increases the risk of infection), and; being obese or overweight.
