How are common childhood illness treated?
The underlying cause of an illness, severity of symptoms and the age of a child will determine the appropriate treatment for an illness. Many illnesses listed here are generally mild, are likely to resolve on their own and may be well-managed with home care. Depending on the severity of the symptoms, some of the illnesses may require prescribed medication to kill off the infection, treat the underlying symptoms, or prevent their recurrence. Some treatment may involve avoidance - in the case of food allergies, allergic conjunctivitis and some types of asthma - while for a condition such as nappy rash, the treatment may include more regular nappy changing, and avoiding harsh baby wipes and lotions.
