Are disposable or cloth nappies better?

Disposable and cloth nappies both have their advantages and disadvantages. Disposable nappies are more convenient, but also more expensive. Cloth nappies cost less, but are more work as they require washing. It is thought that cloth nappies are also more environmentally friendly, but when you factor in the costs of washing (electricity, detergent and water), they have about the same environmental impact as disposable nappies.
