How is arthritis in children diagnosed?

Your doctor will ask you about your child's symptoms, as well as any family history of arthritis. You may also be referred to a doctor who specializes in joint-related conditions. Some tests may include: X-rays, ultrasounds and bone scans, for imaging of joints and bones; Blood tests, urine tests and joint fluid tests to identify a specific type of juvenile arthritis or other conditions that may be present, such as autoimmune diseases, physical injury or infections; Examinations of the eyes, to check for any swelling; Echocardiogram to check for any inflammation around the heart, and; Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which can provide a very detailed image of the area inside the joints.
